Jessie Abeyta

Yá’át’ééh, shí éí Jessie Abeyta yinishyé. Shash dine’é nishlíl, Tl’izilaní bashishchiin, Ma'ii Tsoh éí dashicheii, dóó Tááchii'nii éí dashinalí. Tsé Kó' déé’ naashá. My name is Jessie Abeyta and I am originally from Coalmine Mesa, Arizona, nestled in the Western Agency of the Navajo Nation. I currently live in Santo Domingo, New Mexico, with my husband, Lester Abeyta, and our two children.

I attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona, where I received my undergraduate degree in Veterinary Science and Microbiology. My graduate work is in Pathobiology. I am certified to teach Science, grades 7 – 12, in the state of New Mexico. Before coming to SFIS, I worked for Greyhills Academy High School and the Tuba City public schools.  In Arizona, I’m secondary certified to teach Biology with endorsements in ELL and reading.

I believe it is important to be able to give back to one’s community. I am excited to be a part of the SFIS family where I have an opportunity to give back by helping to make a positive impact on my community, educating the next generation of leaders, and empowering students/learners/leaders.

It is really great that SFIS emphasizes right from the beginning that we are a big family, a big community.

My passion is…. Learning and education. I believe learning is a part of life, no matter how old one gets.  Education is a lifelong process; learning something new is always exciting.  When my grandmother was in her late 80s, she was still taking education courses.  Learning is something that never stops.  That’s why I became a teacher, to become part of that process.
