Cynthia Salvatierra

I am from the Navajo Nation, and my clans are: To'aheedliinii (Water flows together), Kinyaa'aanii (Towering House), Totsohnii (Big water), and Todich'ii'nii (Bitterwater). I have a B.S. in Mathematics and an M.A. in Education. Prior to coming to SFIS, I served as Adjunct Faculty at Diné College and Santa Fe Community College, and also taught at Alameda Middle School. At SFIS, I teach Honors Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.
My teaching philosophy is to teach mathematics in a way that our Native American students can grasp the concepts through the use of technology and physics based projects.
In terms of a memorable experience at SFIS, I feel that every year is a memorable teaching experience.
All of the SFIS core values, including perseverance, giving back, integrity, faith, caring, environmental, humility, wisdom, etc., all play a crucial role in how our students learn and are taught at SFIS. I try to include all of these aspects into my teaching style as other faculty members do, otherwise why would we not have these words as our core values. In return, I expect the same from our students.
Apart from teaching, my other passions in life are spending time with family, animals, , hikes, skiing and scuba diving. For SFIS students, I hope that they feel like they have accomplished all that they have set forth for themselves.
