Honoring SFIS Staff Member John Cammarata

Dear Santa Fe Indian School Community:

It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that longtime Santa Fe Indian School Academic Counselor, John Cammarata, passed away today.  He was one of our treasured family who started with the school in 1978, when we were still in Albuquerque.  He guided thousands of SFIS students through our school and has shared his experience and wisdom schoolwide.  We treasure the time we had with him, and feel it is fitting he passed away on Valentine’s Day because his heart was huge and his love for us great.  He is survived by his wife, SFIS Math Teacher Beth Cammarata, and their two sons, John and Michael, who are both SFIS Alumni.

The entire SFIS community gathered today at 12:00 noon to send prayers.  The afternoon Academic schedule is revised to support students and staff as we process our grief.

With love,

Christie L. Abeyta, Superintendent
