COVID-19: Middle School Academics Continuous Learning Plan

PDF Version [51.0 K]

Dear Middle School Parents/Guardians and Students,

As we embark on our next phase of learning and the end of the school year, we first want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we work out the details of our continuous learning plan. We understand the impact COVID-19 is having on our students, families and our communities.  Therefore, to maintain consistency, minimize any undue stress and still provide fair and equitable learning opportunities for our students, MS teachers have designed an end of the year cross-curricular project that will focus on the areas of math, reading, science, writing and social studies.

Every student will be mailed a paper-based packet of the project. The packets will include a pre-stamped manila envelope for your child to return the completed project. This is a required project that will be assessed as a Pass/Fail grade. 7th grade will complete a Time Capsule Project and 8th grade will complete a Planting Unit Project. Students should begin to work on the project on Monday, April 20th and should complete it by May 15th.  Packets should be mailed back (using the pre-stamped envelope) the week of May 18th.

A few things to consider as we prepare for the end of the year:

  • After spring break students will work with their homeroom teacher. Teachers will have check-in hours between 9:30am-11:00am Monday or Wednesday.  This may be by phone, email or through a teleconference application called Zoom or Google Hangouts. Teachers will also have office hours on Monday and Wednesday from 1:00pm-3:00pm should you or your child need to contact them with any questions.
  • Encourage your child to continue to work on the review/enrichment lessons that were assigned from March 16th though April 6th.
  • If anything should arise that may prevent your child from completing the cross-curricular project, your child should communicate with his/her homeroom teacher.
  • Students will not log into Google classroom to complete the final cross-curricular project. All students will receive paper packets.
  • Special Education teachers collaborated in creating the cross-curricular project to ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications were incorporated. They will continue to work with students and teachers through the completion of the project. Seatha Pacheco, Special Education Coordinator, is available by phone for questions or concerns, (505-629-3210).
  • Students who did not pass first semester per our student handbook policy will take part in credit recovery for that semester. Letters will be mailed out after spring break if a student falls into that criteria.

The health, safety and well-being of our students, families and respected communities is our priority.  Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you, and we will continue to be here to support you during this unsettling time. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us. We are holding each and every one of you in our prayers and hearts.

Sincerely,

Paula Salazar, Middle School Principal                                    Cree Abeyta, Middle School Assistant Principal
