Continued Distance Learning

PDF Version [157.9 K]

Greetings Students, Parents/Guardians, and Communities,

The Santa Fe Indian School (SFIS) will continue with the distance learning model through the end of the first semester as a continued safety measure in light of COVID-19. This decision considers both the national health information as well as the guidance provided by our Tribal Leadership with regard to the safety of our communities.  The SFIS Board of Trustees along with school administration will continue monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and will release more information regarding the second semester at a later time. In the meanwhile, we will continue preparing the campus for a safe return through heightened safety precautions, including screening processes and the installation of protective items, such as plexiglass desk shields.

Until further notice, the SFIS Campus will remain closed. This means that only “On-site Essential and Approved Staff” may enter campus. Other campus visits for approved meetings are to be routed through the Superintendent’s Office.

As always, I want to thank our families, and communities for the patience and support while SFIS staff developed a distance learning solution for our students in these unprecedented times. I understand that remote learning, while potentially offering new learning opportunities, can be challenging as our teachers and students alike learn to use the digital tools. I invite you to revisit our COVID-19 updates regularly, especially our distance learning handbooks (www.sfis.k12.nm.us).

Please continue to communicate feedback with our ?SFIS Principals and Directors (by phone or email) to help us refine and improve the distance learning experience.   We know the strength and resilience of our SFIS community and that by working together, bound by our core values, the students’ personal and educational needs will be met at the highest possible level.

Finally, we need your help for you to confirm that your contact phone numbers and emails are correct in NASIS.  Should we need to communicate this is extremely important.  If you need assistance, please let Admissions or your Principal know your need.

Stay Strong!

Roy M Herrera, Superintendent
