Attendance Counselor (SY24-25)

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent. U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Office experience and experience working with Native American students, and Native American or Tribal entities preferred.

Description:

Works to maintain and improve the attendance and education of students by implementing the attendance policy, maintaining records, developing working relationships with parents, students, and teachers, monitoring and supervising student attendances using the SFIS core values, promoting and achieving the school’s vision and mission as articulated in the Ideal Graduate statement.

• Maintains regular attendance records by entering all student absences into the computer system on a daily basis.
• Prepares computerized attendance sheets.
• Monitors students in the hallways before all class periods and encourages students to get to class on time.
• Admits late students and maintains records of their tardiness.
• Conducts daily detention for students tardy to class.
• Works closely with the HS Principal to prepare letters to be sent home and to Tribal offices while following the attendance matrix.
• Participates in the student “sign out” process and records of student check outs in NASIS.
• Reviews and maintains all incoming statements to the school nurse regarding doctors’ appointments.
• Communicates with teachers regarding student absences/late work acceptance.
• Makes and receives telephone calls, takes messages, and routes calls regarding attendance issues and student behavior.
• Schedules and facilitates student/parent meetings regarding attendance matters.
• Trains teachers on attendance procedures and responsibilities.
• Educates parents and guardians on policy as prevention.
• Responds to inquiries from students, teachers, parents, and Tribal leaders regarding attendance rules and absences.
• Assists the Dean of Students as needed in matters of student discipline and reports.
• Assists with and/or leads student disciplinary procedures when the Dean of Students is unavailable.
• Compiles and submits a variety of daily, weekly, monthly, and year-end reports as required.
• Types, prepares, distributes, and files records, reports, and correspondence related to attendance.
• Operates standard office equipment, e.g., computer (data entry), telephone, copy machines.

Conditions of Employment: Able to comply with the immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986; obtain a successful Criminal History Background Check as per PL 101-647 and 45 CFR 1301; must provide official transcripts; and SFIS Superintendent approval.
