Student Living Advisor (SY 24-25)

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have at least 32 post-secondary semester hours in an applicable academic discipline, including fields related to working with children (child development, education, behavioral sciences and cultural studies.
  • Five (5) years of experience working with adolescent Native American students. Previous experience working in a residential or academic setting, preferred.
  • Knowledge of school and dormitory policies preferred.
  • Must possess a valid NM Driver’s License.
  • Must complete and successfully pass a complete background investigation, including FBI fingerprint check.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required

Description:

The Student Living Advisor (SLA) is to facilitate growth in a social/academic environment.  The SLA will foster a students’ independent living skills, academic skills and social skills in the residential program.  The SLA will establish a trusting and nurturing environment for students. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for the general welfare of an assigned caseload. Take the lead role in establishing an environment which is positive, drug-free, inviting, safe and secure.

  • Follows all SFIS Health and Safety guidelines, COVID-safe practices.
  • Maintainsthe cleanliness, security,andsafetyofthedormitory.
  • Coordinates with other student support programs regarding academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students.
  • Coordinates with staff and other programs to plan and implement holistic, tradition/cultural activities (i.e. Evening Program, field trips, etc.)
  • Collaborates with Recreation-Prevention Specialist to create and implement monthly activities.
  • Assists with the planning and facilitating of the H&W programming.
  • Plan and coordinate activities for individual caseload. Conduct evening caseload meetings with students/staff to present pertinent program information and expectations.
  • Maintains open-communication with parents regarding individual student situations; i.e., academic grades, program information and expectations concerns.
  • Attends staff meetings and all required trainings.
  • Records daily NASIS attendance.
  • Collaborates with other floor staff to complete the Daily and Weekly Attendance Reports.
  • Responsible for providing academic support through collaborating with academic staff, monitoring grades in NASIS and supervising during study hall.
  • Maintains close communication with Dean of Students with behavior concerns, represent students at hearings, Family Conference Session (FCS) and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)
  • Maintains individual student files which include pertinent information to meet the academic, social emotional and behavioral needs of the student.
  • Keeps up-to-date and maintain residential documents (i.e. floor logbooks, check-out binders, information sheets, medication logs, etc)
  • Transports and supervises students per approval by Student Living Director/Supervisor off campus.
  • Enforces the SFIS Student Code by objectively and formally reporting all infractions.
  • Upholds Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and SFIS Confidentiality Policies.
  • Ensures students are accounted for by completing physical room checks and perimeter checks.
  • Ensures that daily structured schedules are followed.
  • Enforces Student/Staff Handbook; residential policies and regulations.
