Mr. Rick Abeyta is the Director of Facilities at SFIS. He is a member of Santa Clara Pueblo. He was a graduate of St. Catherine’s Indian School in Santa Fe in the late 1970s. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy. Upon his return he took training and received his New Mexico Journeyman License. Later in his career he went back to school and became a Master Mechanical Contractor (MM98). He’s also a member of the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA) and the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO).
Mr. Abeyta has worked at SFIS since 1981 and has served as Director of Facilities for the past several years where his role is to operate and maintain the Santa Fe Indian School campus grounds and facilities in a safe and secure manner consistent with federal regulations and standards. He oversees a large staff and is involved in both hands-on and managerial duties.
At SFIS, one of his most memorable moments has been the period in time of transition from the old campus to the new facilities. Mr. Abeyta’s hope is that one day the Santa Fe Indian School will become a self sufficient community without having to rely on outside help for sustainability.
