ANNOUNCEMENT ON SFIS ATHLETICS

The NM Activities Association (NMAA) has a tentative start date for the sport of football on February 1st, 2021 and Cross Country and Volleyball to start on February 15th, 2021. At this time the SFIS campus is predicted to stay closed during those dates as SFIS academics will remain in a remote status until the end of the 3rd Grading Quarter that ends on March 11th, 2021.
If SFIS campus is still closed at the start of the above sports, then SFIS will not participate in those sports. No determination has been made on sports starting later in the semester. Basketball’s tentative start date is March 22, 2021 and Spring Sports to start April 5, 2021.
The NMAA has granted an exception for our SFIS student athletes to participate/try out for athletics at their home district school while maintaining their enrollment at SFIS for the 20-21 school year.
This will only be for sports that SFIS does not offer due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
The home district school is determined on the address on file at SFIS. You will need to contact your home district school for information regarding the start of Football, Cross Country and Volleyball.
The campus remains closed to students and a re-open date has not been finalized.
The campus is currently closed to only essential staff working on a limited basis to limit the number of person to person contacts.
This decision does not come lightly and with support of our Governors, Tribal Leaders, Board of Trustees and SFIS staff, the health and safety of students and staff are most important and remain critical to everyone.
