Fall Sports Athletic Announcement

PDF Version [433.9 K]

JOINT ANNOUNCEMENT

SUPERINTENDENT - ROY HERRERA

SFIS ATHLETIC DIRECTOR - ERIC BROCK

The Santa Fe Indian School (SFIS) will not be participating in the New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA) Fall 2020 sports seasons of Cross Country and Volleyball.  Both seasons start on October 5, 2020.  No decisions have been made regarding the Winter Sports seasons.

Our coaches will remain in contact with our athletes, continue to encourage patience and maintaining good health practices, and reach out to college recruiters and contacts to assist Class of 2021 Seniors with scholarship opportunities.

With the October 5, 2020 timeline, the SFIS Campus remains closed.  The Campus sports facilities, Dorms, Cafeteria and Transportation departments will not be opened to serve our athletes due to the COVID-19 Corona Virus concerns of spreading.

The campus remains closed to students and a re-open date has not been finalized.  The campus is open to essential staff, external workers working on campus construction, and approved meetings.

This decision does not come lightly and with support of our Governors, Tribal Leaders, Board of Trustees and SFIS staff, the health and safety of students and staff are most important and remain critical to everyone.

Respectfully,

Roy Herrera, Superintendent                                              Eric Brock, Athletic Director
