COVID-19: High School Academics Continuous Plan and Enrichment Opportunities

PDF Version [94.5 K]

Dear High School Students and Parents,

Thank you for your patience as we worked out the details of our continuous learning plan and enrichment opportunities. Like you, we are reeling with the daily changes and challenges as this crisis deepens, not just around the world, but in our home communities as well. As we lay out our plan for the continued learning for SFIS students, we want you to know that our main priority is the health and safety of our students and we will work with you and your family however we can in these challenging times. We are holding each and every one of you in our hearts with all the care and compassion that is at the center of who we are as an SFIS family.

As you likely know, we are facing many challenges in terms of continuing teaching and learning. Many families lack reliable access to the internet; there are new and significant sources of stress and anxiety; and tribal communities are implementing more stringent restrictions, making access to different resources more difficult. For those reasons, moving forward we are consolidating the 9th - 11th grade students’ workload to one five-part interdisciplinary project designed to ensure that students complete the necessary work to advance in their education. This work reflects what we consider to be most essential here at SFIS - empowering our students to think critically and to be reflective about their communities, their families, and their futures as Native Americans. Core courses will also continue to post and mail optional enrichment work and we encourage all students to continue to take advantage of the opportunity to stay engaged with those topics while at home. Senior’s workload is consolidated to SHP and passing any classes they might be failing classes.

Below please find an outline of the requirements for students for the remainder of the school year, and some answers to questions about grading. While we hope this communication is clear, do not hesitate to reach out to either Ms. Rosetta or Ms. Love for further explanation. Additionally, it will be very important that students and parents establish a way to communicate with teachers to work through any challenges you have during this time.

We know how hard you are working as parents right now and we are deeply grateful for all the support you are giving your student/s to finish out this year in a good way. We could not do this without you and even in these dark times, it is a source of hope how the SFIS community can come together to do what's best for our children.

Sincerely,

Faith Rosetta, High School Principal

Bridget Love, High School Assistant Principal
