COVID-19: Fall Athletics Update

Will Athletics be offered for the Fall semester of 2020?

We met with our Governors, owners of the Santa Fe Indian School, who recommended not to open our Campus to academic and/or athletic practices/events until deemed safe.

Because of safety concerns with the continued spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic the campus remains closed and dorms not open.  The Campus is open to only essential staff working and approved visitation/deliveries to school.

The Santa Fe Indian School (SFIS) academic year will start on August 24, 2020 from home.  Our educational program will use the Distance Learning Model.

With the Closed Campus, SFIS is not allowing Fall sports to continue, because of the COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic, until determined to be safe.   Bus transportation is stopped for to and from school transport as well as providing transportation to athletic events.  Teams are not authorized to travel by their own transportation to compete in Sporting events.  To keep our athletes engaged and motivated, coaches will be sending practice/conditioning recommendations that can safely be done at home.

SFIS will continue to monitor and will work with the Center for Disease Control (CDC), State of New Mexico COVID-19 Guidelines, our Tribal Leaders, Board of Trustees and the NM Athletics Association to determine a safe start for SFIS.  We ask for patience and prayers continue.
