Cold/Flu Season

PDF Version [32.0 K]

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The cold season has started early here at SFIS! We are seeing many students with severe viral cold symptoms like sore throats, congestion and cough. We are also seeing many students with a stomach virus who are having symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain. Additionally, we have just started seeing our first cases of students with strep throat!

In order to keep these illnesses from spreading, please instruct your student/s to take precautions:

1. Wash their hands or using hand sanitizer frequently,

2. Avoid sharing of food and drinks or eating utensils,

3. Dispose of used tissues in trash bins,

4. Cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze, as well as washing their hands after.

We will be extra diligent here at school to keep common surfaces clean and will provide extra hand sanitizer for the students and staff.

Reminder, if your student is experiencing a fever, frequent bouts of vomiting or diarrhea, persistent coughing, or any other symptoms that may interfere with their participation or attendance in class or potentially spread illness, please keep the student home! They may return when their symptoms have resolved. This will help keep these illnesses from spreading to other students and staff. Also please contact the attendance clerk if your child is staying at home due to illness. These are excused absences when accompanied with a doctor’s note upon your student’s return.

Thank you for your cooperation and please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Paula Frank
