Network Administrator

Education and Experience:  Bachelor’s Degree or higher in IT related field and 6+ years is experience with a high level of knowledge in the area of Network Administration preferred.

Bachelor’s Degree plus Microsoft - related certifications in combination with 6+ years is experience with a high level of knowledge in the area of Network Administration.

A combination of education and certification with 6+ years of experience with a high level of knowledge in the area of Network Administration.

Required Experience:

  •  Experience with Domain Controllers, Active Directory and group policies
  • Automating IT tasks through scripting              
  • Experience with non-windows firewalls
  • Experience with switching and routing              
  • Experience with wireless networking
  • Experience with project management         
  • Experience with non-windows operating Networks

 Certificates, License, and Registration:  Valid Current Driver’s License is required.

Description:

General Job Description:

The Network Administrator works as part of the Information Technology Department to ensure proper function of all NIX- based servers, applications and services hosted on these servers. The Network Administrator is tasked with managing various additional systems as listed under the Essential Functions heading, below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Network Administrator must understand and demonstrate the ability to: 

  • Manage and monitor campus gateway security to include Firewalls, Routers, Content Filtering,
  • Manage Surveillance System to include cameras, equipment, and related software.
  • Manage campus VoIP telephony system to include, servers, phones, voicemail, gateways and related software and programming.
  • Manage external and internal DNS, WINS, and DHCP servers and services
  • Manage Network and security updates for Windows servers and workstations
  • Manage multi-node SAN infrastructure
  • Manage and monitor a multi-host virtual server infrastructure
  • Manage and monitor campus wireless network infrastructure including controllers, Access Points, authentication
  • Manage and monitor the campus LAN infrastructure including switches, routers, security and cabling
  • Manage Non-Microsoft mobile device management including application software, management software and security
  • Manage Windows Distributed File Network infrastructure
  • Manage power infrastructure and related applications in server rooms and data closets

Other Responsibilities and Expectations:The Network Administrator will:

  • Comply with the SFIS Code of Conduct
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge Skills and Abilities: The Network Administrator will need the following:

  • Basic research skills
  • Record keeping principles and practices
  • Ability to carry out the Essential Functions listed above without major retraining
  • Organization, time management, task prioritization, and action planning
  • Ability to communicate respectfully, clearly, and concisely in person, by telephone, and though written forms (e.g., paper, email, text, social media).
  • High level of integrity, commitment, and work ethic.
  • Strong problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, administrators, and community in a variety of roles and positions.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to use computers, specialized software, and/or other electronic equipment to fulfill job functions.

Physical Requirements:  Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds) reaching, squatting, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required.

Safety and Health:  Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.

Work Environment:  Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After hours work may be required.
