General Information
Living in the heart of Santa Fe, our students can utilize a variety of public transportation services to get around Santa Fe and to travel to and from Santa Fe. We believe the experience of using public transportation is an important life skill for students who may be living in larger cities for college.

Students need to have a Ridership Contract on file in order to use these services. We also ask that parents call the dorm staff prior to Friday to confirm that their son/daughter will be using these services.

New Mexico Railrunner Express
Since the New Mexico RailRunner Express expanded their service to Santa Fe, students and parents have adopted the RailRunner service as a great way for returning home on the weekends. Close to 100 students ride the train on Fridays to various stops and to return to campus on Sunday evenings. A smaller number of students use the Park & Ride busses, Blue Bus, Po'Pay Messenger busses to get home on the weekends.

We encourage our students to be safe as they get to and from the South Capitol station. The walk to station and campus is about a 10-15 minute walk. Cerrillos Road is one of the busiest roads in Santa Fe, and we encourage all students to use proper street crosswalks and be aware of drivers. During seasonal darkness and inclement weather, our students must ride busses or transportation provided by SFIS to the South Capitol Station.

We ask parents to come to SFIS to pick up their students when dorms close (for breaks or holidays) so that we may foster staff-parent rapport and communication.

Santa Fe Trails Bus System
Students are allowed to ride Santa Fe’s Trails Bus system on Off-Campus Days or as a group activity with their floor.
