The Information Technology (IT) Department supports over 800 computers, virtual and physical, in both Windows and Apple environments, and there are over 900 users that rely on the network daily. The SFIS network was recently upgraded to 1 Gbps speeds for the academic computers with a network backbone of 10 Gbps. The IT Department has also implemented a storage area network and virtual server infrastructure to improve network performance and backup procedures. These upgrades are the result two years of planning and implementation to provide computer services equivalent to regional higher education institutions.
In addition to network and workstation support, the IT Department coordinates other projects that expand the role of technology in teaching and learning as well as in school operations. Regarding business documents and school archives, IT is implementing an Enterprise Electronic Document Management System to digitize historical documents. IT is also coordinating the SFIS website re-design project. The website is being created with a content-management system backend to automate and manage the information so that content is fresh and rotating.
