Courses & Requirements

In order to be promoted from:

7th or 8th Grade: A student must pass six or more courses and may be retained if he/she fails two or more core courses.  

9th to 10th Grade: A student must earn a minimum of six credits, one of which must be English I 

10th to 11th Grade: A student must earn a minimum of six credits, one of which must be English II

11th to 12th Grade: A student should earn a minimum of six credits, one of which must be English III

12th Grade to Graduating Senior: A student must successfully complete all graduation requirements establishd for that year’s graduates.

  • Language Arts: 4 credits (Required: English I, II, III, IV)
  • Reading: 1 credit (credit can be waived if student is found proficient or above at 9th grade)
  • Social Studies: 4.0 credits (One credit in US history, one credit in government and economics, and one credit in world history, 0.5 credit in New Mexico history and 0.5 credit in Native American history)
  • Science: 3 credits (Two credits in a lab science course)
  • Mathematics: 4 credits (algebra I, geometry, algebra II, and pre-calculus or quantitative reasoning)
  • Physical Education: 1 credit 
  • Health: 0.5 credit
  • Fine and Practical Arts: 2 credits (One credit is required in any of the practical arts offerings, one credit is required in one of the fine arts offerings)
  • Electives: 4.5 credits (Electives may be chosen from any of the available course offerings and include two years of a language other than English)
  • SFIS Exit Requirement: Senior Honors Project 
  • One of the above credits must also be a dual credit or advanced placement course
  • Total Credits: 25
